The Marion County Recreational Railroad provides recreational train rides, operating an engine, a passenger car and a caboose.
Boarding at the Columbia Exposition Center, the train travels along 1.5 miles of historic railroad track, a portion of the Silver Creek Columbia line, through Columbia. At a point, just north of Bluff Street Park, the train reverses for the trip back to the Expo Center. The entire round trip takes approximately 45 minutes.
The train ride offers passengers of all ages a glimpse into the excitement which riders of years gone by experienced as they watched the landscape pass by the train window. It reminds us of the adventuresome and courageous men and women who settled and developed the frontier, and who contributed to the economic prosperity of our country. The ride also provides a teaching opportunity with insights into the importance of the railroad as a primary mode of transportation in the history and formation of the economy of the local region.
The Marion County Railroad Authority continues to pursue additional development and expansion of the railroad line. For more information on how you can support the railroad contact Eddie Ray Breakfield at 601-736-4537.
